Today's cleaning jag is brought to you by Metallica's Ride the Lightning,
thank you very much.
I got up this morning and ran around cleaning my house while listening to
Metallica cranked up because that's one of the things that I like to do when I
clean.
It works for me.
So yesterday was fun. The morning was good. I cleaned, I played
with LB. I made EB his lunch. He came home from school and proceeded
to turn his nose up at my food.
Seems that my Spaghetti Casserole that got rave reviews from him the night
before was suddenly no longer acceptable by him as a food item. He decided
that he would only eat 1 stalk of celery that had been cut into 3 smaller
sections and smeared with peanut butter. He decided that was enough food
to get him through the rest of the day.
I got mad. I told him how I thought it was so funny that when his Dad is
around he doesn't try to pull crap like that but since it was just me home
yesterday suddenly it was alright to attempt it.
EB just gave me one of his surly looks and the two of us exchanged some angry
words and then he left for school, without his coat.
So when his Dad came home we grabbed LB and ran down to the bank and since I
was just around the corner from EB's school we dropped off his jacket.
He came to the office to pick it up and gave me such an icy stare that even the
secretary got frost bite. Ouch.
I laughed because I don't really care how many icy stares he gives me, in the
end he was going to have to talk to his Dad... ha! Of course that would be
after I had a nice sit down with him about how I'm not going to be tolerating
that crap from him any more. He doesn't want me to fix him his lunches
anymore, that's fine. He can damn well do it himself! Saves me the
time and effort.
So, after dropping off the jacket Hubby, LB and myself headed off to grab the
fixings for the stew that Hubby is at this very moment preparing in the kitchen
with EB.
Are you wondering why EB is home? Well I'm getting to it.
We get back from shopping and the phone is ringing. It's EB's principal,
seems EB lost his temper during recess and punched one of the boys in his class,
twice.
EB is suspended for the day.
Want to know the story? There is this boy at the school, and even the
principal told me that he's been getting on EB lately. He's been sticking
his nose into things he shouldn't be and saying things that he shouldn't.
So EB got fed up with it all yesterday. It seems that he was running on
the playground and knocked over a younger girl, who he apologized to right away
and helped her up. She was alright with it. Forgotten right?
Nope. This other boy ran over and started yelling at EB about how he
knocked over that girl and it seems he said some other stuff that EB doesn't
want to repeat (fine) and EB lost his temper and hauled off and decked this boy,
punching him twice.
No, I'm not punishing him severely for this. I did talk to him about
learning how to control his temper. I told him next time to just tell that
boy to shut up.
But I don't think it's the terrible crime that the principal is making out to
be. She's concerned that next year he's going to a school with older kids
and what if EB loses his temper and gets the crap beat out of him then?
Yeah? So? Then he gets the crap beat out of him and he learns a
valuable lesson. Watch your temper!
It was a lesson I learned. It was a lesson the Hubby learned. And
honestly if EB is going to be attending a school with older kids that are
willing to beat the crap out of him, I want him to know that he's alright to
defend himself.
Don't get me wrong. EB's not having a holiday, he's helping his Dad cook. He helped clean the house, he had to help take the garbage to the curb, he's got homework to do. He's got a long list of chores that he will be working on today. But I'm not going to freak out and go over board punishing him when I know that if someone got into my face all the time like that I would have most likely done the same thing at his age, heck I'd probably still do it if it happened today.
On an unrelated note, the other night when Dot and I were listening to Bon
Jovi the song he wrote for Young Guns II came on and I was telling her about
Billy the Kid and stuff. I can't believe that my 9 year old daughter knows
nothing about Billy the Kid. I look at my kids and I think back to when we
were that age, we were much more worldly than they are. Sure they know
about Harry Potter and stuff, but they don't seem to have as broad a range of
knowledge as we did.
Anyway, so I told her about Young Guns and I promised her that we would watch
Young Guns together and we would learn more about Billy the Kid and other Wild
West Historical figures (because she seemed interested). So last night I
was flipping channels and guess what was on the TV? Young Guns!
She watched some of it but had to go to bed before it was over. This
morning the first words out of her mouth were "What happened to Billy the Kid?"
She's so cute.
While EB is peeling potatoes with his Dad he's listening to this.
