Boxing Day arrived, Geeker and his girl would be coming over for
dinner. Geeker works 2 jobs, one in a warehouse (which closed down for
Christmas) and the other in retail, so he had to work Boxing Day. The day was spent hanging out with the kids. We tidied up
the house, I did some laundry, soaked in a nice extra hot bath. It was
just a nice relaxing day. That is, until the moment that my foot unexplainably slipped off
of the top step as I came down the stairs. I fell onto my bottom and began
to sort of do a type of combination bounce/slide down the stairs. I didn't
make a noise, well my butt made a large whoomp sort of noise as it connected
with the stairs, each and every time. But I didn't cry out, whimper,
nothing. I did manage to stop my utterly embarrassing descent just before
hitting the bottom of the stairs. "Granny's here!" I announced to the kids as she approached
the front door. They rushed to answer the door, Hubby returned to his
computer, I could tell he was stealing himself for my Mom's harsh attitude
towards him. Even I was bracing myself for whatever insanity she would be
attempting to leave at my doorstep. She came into the house with a bag of gifts for each of the
kids. The kids gave Nephew his gift. And then a Christmas Miracle
occurred. I'm not sure how long my Mom stayed, I think about an hour or
maybe even closer to two hours. Like I said I'm not sure. But I do
know that she was more like the Mom I used to have then she's been in years.
It was really nice to be able to sit and talk with her and not have her spouting
off her insanity or trying to lecture me on the evils of my father and how I was
evil because I didn't take her side in the whole thing, blah, blah, blah. It was nice to sit and be able to chat about other stuff going
on in our lives. I'm not getting my hopes up that this means my Mom is
starting to move on, trying to get past all the crap that's happened these past
four years. I'm not hoping that this means that we might be able to give
it a try again. I did that once and got beat down for my efforts, I'm not
ready for that to happen again. I am saying that it was a nice visit.
That's all. Later on Geeker and his girl came by. I put out enough
food to feed a small army and it was mostly eaten. Which is good, because
that's what food is meant for. We exchanged our gifts with them, we gave
them gift certificates for movies and meals, because right now that's where most
of their money is going. They are seeing a couple of movies a week, plus
going out for dinner each time. It's running them quite a bill, so we
thought we'd treat them to a few nights. They were very appreciative. After the gift exchanging and eating of food we settled down to
watch The Brothers Grimm, which wasn't as great as I'd hoped it would be.
I pretty much foretold everything that was going on. Which is something I
hate in a movie. Don't be obvious, put a few twists and turns in so that
we don't figure it all out within the first few minutes of the show. Other
wise the rest is just a little boring. As soon as he passed out we sent him upstairs to bed, but on his
way up he discovered that our beloved family pet had left one more gift for me
in the upstairs hallway, right in front of his bedroom door. Once I'd cleaned up the mess and then practically had a shower
to sanitize myself off and of course kissed and hugged my son as I sent him on
his way to his bed I returned to the sofa to finish watching the movie. Hubby had Tuesday off as well, but that was basically spent
sitting around. We played some computer games
I managed this by just flailing my arms around until one of them wedged between
the rails, yanking me to a jerky stop and causing me a burning, tearing kind of
pain from my shoulder to my elbow.
I heard the Hubby, Dot and EB all gasp with concern as they leapt to their feet,
abandoning what ever activity they were currently engaged in and flew to my to
express their concern for my welfare.
As they rushed over they were stopped in their tracks by a very high pitched,
uncontrollable guffawing from LB who was sitting in front of the TV. All
eyes turned his way to find him staring at me and laughing in such an infectious
manner that soon all of us were laughing at my aerobatic attempts at descending
the stairs.
Realizing that I was fine the other two children returned to their previously
forgotten activities, while Hubby remained at my side, giving me a once over.
He wanted to make certain that there was in fact no broken bones or terrible
sprained parts on my body. As he stood there checking out the rapidly
forming bruise on my arm, just below my elbow I think I inhaled sharply and
muttered shit under my breath.
"Does that hurt?" Hubby asked with concern in his eyes.
"It's not that. Nephew is here! Which means my Mom is here!" I
whispered to him with as much enthusiasm one would muster when announcing that
the Grim Reaper has come to pay them a visit and steal them away from the realm
of the living.
My Mom began to talk to us, she was pleasant and warm towards Hubby as she
talked to him about random stuff. They talked about the Christmas Tree.
He told her about how we go to chop it down every year now, this is the third
year we've done so. And I could see the jealousy in her eyes. She'd
always wanted to do that, but my Dad would never go along with it. He had
no intention of trekking through the woods and freezing parts of his body to get
a tree when he could grab one from a lot with so much more ease.
Geeker gave Hubby a World of Warcraft game card which pays for more of his
online addiction. He gave Dot some new earrings, a beautiful scarf for her
hair as well as a ribbon for her hair as well, and of course a gift card for La
Senza. I think his Girl was in charge of Dot's gifts, it just seems like
it because Geeker isn't exactly the kind of guy to wrap it all up beautifully in
the scarf and use the ribbon to tie it all together. It was such a pretty
package I really didn't want Dot to open it at all. If my batteries hadn't
crapped out on my camera I might have been able to take a shot and share the
sweetness of that package.
Oh and guess what Geeker got me, guess, guess.
Firefly, the complete series as well as Serenity on DVD. Wow, that's all
that I can say. Well actually I did say much more to him. I think I
just about died of ecstasy right there on the spot. I sort of knew he was
giving me Serenity, since he hinted at it so I wouldn't go out an buy it.
He knows how much I loved that series and movie. But I never suspected
he'd buy the series for me as well.
I've watched the first few disks of Firefly with the family (this is the first
time Dot's really paid attention to it, so the movie will be that much more
interesting to her now, at least that's what I'm thinking!)
But just so it wasn't a waste of an evening, we also watched Monty Pythons ~ And
Now for Something Completely Different, which of course was just bloody
brilliant. EB passed out during it since it was getting so late. But
the bits that he saw either totally confused him or made him laugh hysterically.
Diarrhea, lots and lots of diarrhea. So I had to go and clean that up,
wash the floor and some of the walls before EB would even think of coming near
the stairs again.
After the movie was done we said our goodnights and Geeker and his Girl left for
their homes while Hubby and I tidied up before hitting the mattresses as well.
